An appointment for one.

A small home salon in southwest Gainesville, where one dog is groomed at a time, by appointment.

The dog sets the pace.

Your dog gets the whole appointment, from the first brush to the last, with the same person the whole way through. Nothing is rushed, so a dog who needs to stop and settle can stop and settle. The table comes down to floor height so nobody is lifted or asked to jump, every dog is dried by hand, and no dog is left alone with equipment running. Where a perfect trim and a comfortable dog pull in different directions, the dog comes first.

A dark, wiry-coated dog mid-bath at Fresh Tails, a dollop of shampoo on its head, looking straight at the camera.

Why here

Professionally equipped, deliberately small.

  • An electric lift table

It comes down to floor height and back up to working height, so no dog is lifted onto anything or asked to jump. For an old dog, that is the difference between a calm start and a struggle.

  • Hand-drying, with a handheld dryer

Drying is the part of a groom most dogs find frightening. Every dog is dried by hand, and none is shut in with equipment running and left to it.

  • A climate controlled room

A professionally installed mini split holds the temperature where it is set, whatever the afternoon outside is doing.

  • A stainless steel tub

Non porous, kitchen quality: washes down completely between each dog so nothing remains from the one before.

  • Clippers and shears kept professionally sharpened

Dull blades pull and snag, and that is most of what makes a dog dread a groom. Sharp ones cut through coat instead of dragging at it.

  • Hypoallergenic shampoo and conditioner

In every bath, not sold as an upgrade. Skin is what a groom is most likely to upset, so it is not the place to compromise.

Services

Bath, haircut, and a few good extras.

Every appointment starts with a hands-on assessment of coat, skin, ears, nails, and paws, and you get a firm price before anything begins. Appointments run anywhere from about forty five minutes to three hours, depending on your dog.

  • Bath

Hypoallergenic shampoo and conditioner, hand-drying, brush-out, nails, and ears.

  • Haircut

A full breed-appropriate cut, or whatever length actually suits your dog’s life.

  • De-shedding

A shed-control bath and blow-out that gets the loose undercoat out, with the right tools for it.

  • Spa add-ons

The Fresco package, a mud bath, teeth brushing, paw balm, and nail care.
